WanderConnect ("we", "us", "our") helps travellers find companions to travel with — swipe to match with other travellers, discover and join trips, chat, and plan together. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the WanderConnect app, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account data. You sign up with your email address and a password. We store your email and a securely hashed password, and we record whether your email has been verified.
- Profile data. Photos you upload, your name, age, gender, bio, the languages you speak, and the travel vibes you select (e.g. Adventurer, Planner, Explorer, Relaxer, Social Butterfly, Budget Traveller, Digital Nomad, Beach Vacation, Trekking, Night Owl, Luxury Lover, Star Gazing, Photographer, Spontaneous).
- Trip data. Trips you create — destination, start and end dates, a cover photo, and any description — plus requests you send to join other travellers' trips.
- Preferences. Your discovery filters, such as age range, gender, and travel vibe.
- Chat content. Messages you send and receive in one-to-one chats with your matches and in trip group chats.
- Feedback. Anything you send us through the in-app feedback form.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Swipes, matches, trip join requests, and in-app activity used to operate the service.
- Device data. Device model, operating system version, app version, and a push notification token (if you enable notifications).
- Approximate location. Only if you grant permission, to show travellers and trips near you. You can use the app without granting location access.
2. How we use your information
- Create and manage your account, profile, and trips.
- Show you other travellers and trips, and match you when interest is mutual.
- Enable real-time one-to-one and group chat, and let approved travellers join a trip's group chat.
- Send notifications about new matches, messages, and trip join approvals.
- Keep the service safe — detect abuse, enforce our Terms, and act on unmatches, blocks, and reports.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
3. How we share information
- With other users. Your profile (photos, name, age, gender, languages, vibes, bio) is visible to other travellers in the discovery deck. Trips you post are visible to other travellers, and once you join a trip its group chat is visible to everyone in that group. Your chat messages are visible to the people in that chat.
- Service providers. We use trusted third parties to run the app: cloud hosting, database, authentication, and file storage (Supabase); and push notification delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging, a Google service). They process data only to provide these services to us.
- Legal. We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the service.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show third-party ads.
4. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited information to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Unmatching a user removes the shared chat; leaving a trip's group removes you from that group chat.
5. Your choices and rights
- Access, edit, delete. You can edit your profile and trips in the app and delete your account at any time, which removes your personal data.
- Unmatch and block. One tap removes a match and wipes the shared chat; blocking prevents further contact.
- Permissions. You control location, notification, and photo permissions through your device settings.
- Requests. Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR/CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data. Contact us to exercise them.
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
WanderConnect is for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn an account belongs to a minor, we will delete it.
8. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data, we take steps to ensure it remains protected under this policy.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
